About

Primrose Art Lab is a year-long experiment in learning to draw, paint, illustrate, journal and do all things art related using only free, publicly available resources – primarily YouTube art tutorials.

Rather than presenting myself as an expert or teacher, I approach this as a working learner. Each week I choose a tutorial, follow it properly, complete the exercises, and evaluate what actually helps, what is unclear, and what assumptions are being made about prior knowledge.

The focus is not on speed or polished results, but on process:

  • How beginner-friendly are these lessons in reality?
  • Do they build skills in a structured way?
  • What does it feel like to learn from them over time?

The project documents the experience honestly – including confusion, frustration, small breakthroughs, and gradual progress. It is part learning journal, part resource review, and part long-form experiment in whether a motivated beginner can build real foundational skills using only what is freely available online.

Primrose Art Lab exists to slow learning down, make it visible, and treat it with the same care and seriousness as any other long-term study.
